Comprehensive Eye Exams in London, Ontario

Early detection is a critical factor in the treatment of many eye diseases and conditions. At the office of London, Ontario optometrist Dr. Cook, we are focused on preventative care and offer comprehensive eye exams to protect your vision. We utilize the latest technology, including retinal digital imaging, to give us the clearest, most accurate view possible.

Routine eye exams are capable of detecting common conditions such as:

  • Glaucoma
  • Macular degeneration
  • Cataracts
  • Diabetic eye disease

While regular eye exams are important for all, they are critical for diabetic patients and highly recommended for all seniors and children. Diabetics have a higher risk of blindness and are more likely to develop eye complications.

When was the last time you had your vision checked? Don’t take your eyesight for granted – make an appointment with Dr. Cook.

Our clinic proudly offers the following advanced technology to our patients. We are proud to use the latest diagnostic equipment for your eye care needs.

Refraction

With the ability to provide information on corneal topography, wavefront, autorefraction, keratometry and pupillometry, the NIDEK OPD-Scan II uses state-of-the-art imaging and analysis technology. Created to measure normal to highly aberrated eyes, this system offers an array of data maps to provide information on the total wavefront, corneal shape, total refractive error, internal aberrations and visual quality of the eye. It allows for reliable and accurate optic diagnostics.

Occular Health Assessment

The only tonometer that measures Corneal Hysteresis (CH), the Ocular Response Analyzer® (ORA) can help detect glaucoma progression. Corneal Hysteresis is an indication of the biomechanical properties of the cornea differing from thickness or topography, which are geometrical attributes. In addition to Corneal Hysteresis, Ocular Response Analyzer provides Corneal Compensated Intraocular Pressure (IOPcc). A superior indication of the true pressure it is proven to be less influenced by corneal properties than Goldmann or other methods of tonometry.

The risk of glaucoma progression is closely associated with CH measurements. Patients who have a lower CH had quicker rates of visual field loss than those with higher CH.

Retina (and Macula) and Optic Nerve Assessment

A routine eye exam should include an assessment of the retina to detect abnormalities or disease. Sensitive and susceptible to disease, early detection of retinal abnormality is crucial. Doing so can help prevent loss of vision and blindness. Digital retinal imaging is utilized to create a wellness baseline for our patients. A high resolution photographic system, it can be used to follow critical retinal changes throughout your lifetime.

The following conditions frequently develop without warning or symptoms: macular degeneration, retinal holes or detachments. Other chronic diseases like diabetes, arteriosclerosis and hypertension can also lead to vision loss or blindness.

Images from previous years can be placed side-by-side on the computer screen for comparison with that day’s retinal image. We can also share the images with other physicians for consultation.
